Aborted - Strychnine.213 (Century Media Records) - Back
Entering their thirteenth year, Belgium death metallers Aborted have just released their seventh album Strychnine.213. The first thing that stood out for me when I received the album was the brutally mutilated naked female artwork on the album cover! Let's face it… Aborted has always been a band that loves to use colorful and no doubt disturbing to some imagery. The band whose artwork can be compared to bands such as Cannibal Corpse, featuring horrific, visions of mutilation that I personally love seeing on brutal metal album covers. 'Strychnine.213' kicks off with a strong introduction titled 'Carrion' which continues on to become the brutality known as 'Ophiolatry on a Hemocite Platter'. Death metal fans will love this song, killer guitar riffs and some of the best extreme drumming I have heard in a long time! Vocalist Sven de Caluwe sounds amazing throughout the new album, hitting all the notes that you have come to expect from him over the past thirteen years. The blood curdling squeals remind me so much of the mighty Glen Benton and the lead work in this track in particular reminded me of guitarists such as Dimebag Darrell and Zakk Wylde! One of my favorite songs from the new album is none other than 'The Chyme Congeries'! Aborted will no doubt be playing 'The Chyme Congeries' in their set-list from now on! This is one insane track that will go down very well live! As I listen to it I can close my eyes and picture the crowd going insane whilst they play this one live! Dan Wilding showcases why he is such an amazing drummer over the entire album but the snare rolls and double kick speed during 'The Chyme Congeries' is awesome, all aspiring drummers out there will love Dan's work on this one! Another one of my favorite tracks is 'A Murmur in Decrepit Wits', when heavy metal fans hear the first few bars of this song they will immediately think of Dimebag Darrell, the music is nice and heavy and the guitar work is in the same style as how Dimebag played. I loved this track as well, there was a great melodic breakdown as the song progressed which I really enjoyed! The closing track on 'Strychnine.213' has become an instant favorite to head bang along to! 'The Obfuscate' has a kickin’ groove from start to finish and it's as every bit as brutal as you would expect from Aborted! 'The Obfuscate' definitely leaves you wanting more from these Belgium metallers! It is easy to see why these guys have loyal fans calling themselves The Aborted Army turning up to shows wearing in blood splattered surgical gear such as surgical masks and gloves. Aborted have a lot to offer the heavy metal community and I urge anyone into brutalized death metal to check out the band's latest offering!
