Belphegor - The Goatreich - Fleshcult (Napalm Records) - Back
The Vienna/Austrian borders are sweltering in blasphemic relics as Belphegor's 5th album has been released! As with their predecessor, Lucifer Incestus, the structures of the songs are totally chaotic and speed-derived. Although, there are a few hymns that have a mid-pace such as "Sepulture of Hypocrisy" and "Kings Shall Be Kings". These two songs have that added Morbid Angel feel. The vocals sound a lot more hateful and even have a more guttural effect making this Goatreich - Fleshcult more of a death metal experience rather than the death/black mix from the past. No worries, though! Belphegor gracefully stand as one of the best of their kind once again! The most notable tracks for me are "Fornicationium et Immundus Diabolus" and "Swarm of Rats", which are the most diverse and excellent hymns that grace this impossible-to-find-flaws opus. Don't get me wrong, they are certainly masterful with their craft, they are not perfect either. Up there with Nile, Morbid Angel, Dark Funeral, and Dimmu... Belphegor is certainly in great company nonetheless!
