Dark The Suns - In Darkness Comes Beauty (Firebox Records) - Back
The debut album “In Darkness Comes Beauty” from the Finnish band Dark The Suns is impressive to say the least. I can’t get enough of this album, as it’s very pleasing to a metalhead’s ears. The band is among the melodic doom metal vibe and began in 2005 as Mikko Ojala’s (Vocals & Guitars) solo project. It developed to what it is today, much more than solo undertaking.

As I listened to “In Darkness Comes Beauty” I heard many bands with similar traits: Tiamat, Theatre of Tragedy, Within Temptation, Moonspell, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Opeth, Anathema, etc. Which in turn gives the band a familiar yet unique sound.

“In Darkness Comes Beauty” has a full and rich sound, with a melancholic atmosphere. Delicate keys embrace you as you listen. The guitars have an awesome rockin’ attitude and the solos and leads are vibrant and appealing. There is also a strong foundation of drums in which the songs are built upon. Vocally there are death-oriented and whispering vocals that are used as nice contrast throughout the album.

There isn’t one weak tune on the album. A few that I have grown to appreciate the most include “Reflections,” “The Sleeping Beauty,” “Alone,” and “Angel Soul,” but when I listen to this disc, I listen to it all the way through! Great debut gentleman, I can’t wait for more!
