Nuclear Blast Allstars - Out Of The Dark (Nuclear Blast Records) - Back
“Out Of The Dark” is the second, more malevolent part, of a two CD compendium that is to help commemorate Nuclear Blast Records anniversary that is now 20 years in the making. As with the first part of this celebration, “Into The Light,” this part includes vocalist from various band throughout the Nuclear Blast Records history including Anders Friden (In Flames), John Bush (ex-Anthrax), Bjorn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork), Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain), Maurizio Iacono (Kataklysm), Mark Osegueda (Death Angel) and many more.

Peter Wichers one of the founding members of Soilwork (and now former member), produced, composed and played all the tracks. Now that takes musical talent, and expect nothing short. The songs do vary from one track to another but mostly stay in the melodic metal tone. Additional help to put this collection together came from a couple of Peter’s friends. The drumwork was a shared duty by Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork, Scarve) and Henry Ranta (ex-Soilwork).

While many of the tracks are in the melodic metal range, there are parts that go from black metal to thrash. So don’t expect a stationary sound, the songs can be as different as the guest vocalists approach.

“Out Of The Dark” is intriguing at the very least. To have a collaboration where so many musicians work together to put out an album like this doesn’t happen all the time. Actually it’s quite rare. This is one way you can get just about everyone interested into the same disc no matter if you are into tradition, thrash, metalcore, brutal death, Swedish death, black metal or anything in between. I’m glad this has graced my ears.
