Quadrivium - Adversus (Soulseller Records) - Back
Let it be known that the content I received from this promo copy was more or less stated as a very unique blend of metal with no correlation to any band except perhaps, Arcturus. Alas! I think this sounds of "Aspera Hiems Sinfonia"!! The missing album between that and La Masquerade Infernale is this very disc!! I do agree that Quadrivium is extremely unique with diversities in both metallic and symphonic sounds & song structures. The band was founded by main composer / songwriter, Erlend Antonsen and also lead vocalist, Lars Jensen back in 2005. They have since added bassist, Svein-Ivar Sarassen into the mix for this and future releases. They have also added the vocal assistance of Bjornar Erevik Nilsen as guest to create a wider spectrum of possibilities. His vocals remind me of a nice cross of Trickster Garm (Arcturus/Ulver/Head Control System) and Thomas Helm (Noekk/Empyrium). Adversus is a very keyboard driven album that is to be the first of three parts in a trilogy of sorts. It contains 9 tracks and roughly, 40 minutes of Avantgarde-style black metal. By "avantgarde", I mean: heavy as fuck, symphonic, fast, melodic and experimental to the point of craziness or progressive. This is something for fans of Arcturus, Mirrorthrone, Radigost and pretty much any dark metal influenced with loads of keyboards!! A must for the aforementioned. Favorite track: "Into The Void".
