Stigma - When Midnight Strikes! (Pivotal Recordings) - Back
Stigma was established in 2000 by vocalist Stefano and guitarist Morgan originally as an old-school hardcore band. Shortly there after the rest of the current lineup joined the band and have morph to a melodic death/metalcore or deathcore type band.

Two EPs, in 2003 and 2004, helped in aiding the band to play out more. In 2007 the band went back into the studio to record once again. This time, their first full-length album, "When Midnight Strikes!" People into bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, Himsa, and At The Gates will probably find elements in Stigma's brand of metal that they will appreciate.

"When Midnight Strikes!" has a selection of nice riffs. Nothing overly great, but solid. Most to my liking were the dueling guitars with harmonies, some melodic riffs. However, the riffs that chug along like a locomotive and the heavy beat driven breakdowns were the easiest to get into, and maybe more of them would be a welcome treat.

Abrasive yelling death style vocals at the front of Stigma are quality, while the song lyrics are based around horror movie creatures. In fact they have a music video for song "I Am Dracula" which is the first single off the album.

These Italian stallions keep the music assertive for the most part and seem to have elements that a host of metal and hardcore fans can get into. I myself am not quite sold on them yet. Though they have potential, they haven't really raised themselves above the cluster of other bands that play in a similar manor. How good are they? Well we'll just have to see how they develop from this point on. "When Midnight Strikes!" is an honest start.
